Working with individuals who consistently demonstrate progressiveness is always a rewarding experience. This sentiment resonates deeply with me when I think about the dedicated team working behind the scenes to ensure the publication of every HH People edition. Kudos Guys!
How has Q1 2024 been so far?
Q1 2024 has been a rollercoaster ride of experiences. On the bright side, I’ve achieved some personal milestones and even made progress in my career. Enjoyable moments with loved ones and pursuing hobbies have also brought immense joy. However, there have been challenges, like navigating some professional hurdles. Through it all, I’ve leaned on resilience, adaptability, and a positive mindset to overcome obstacles and emerge stronger than before.
What’s the one thing that shocked you?
One surprise that shocked me was when someone, through the agents unexpectedly paid for the house I currently reside in simply because the agents wanted to collect agency fees, leaving everyone in the building in a predicament at the moment.
Also the sudden shift in priorities and responsibilities within my workplace. As the demands of my role evolved, I found myself facing new challenges and having to quickly adapt to unfamiliar situations. While initially daunting, this experience ultimately pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to develop new skills and perspectives, another striking realisation during this period was the profound impact government policies can have on individuals and communities, but the bottom line is that we are here, thanks to the unseen merciful hand of our creator.
January 1st vs now, how do you feel?
Comparing my mindset and feelings from January 1st to now, I have noticed a significant shift in perspective. At the beginning of the year, I was filled with excitement and anticipation for the months ahead. However, as the year progressed and I encountered various challenges, I found myself experiencing moments of doubt and uncertainty. Despite this, I have also developed a greater sense of resilience and determination to overcome obstacles and pursue my goals with renewed vigour.
Are you still following your New Year’s resolutions?
When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I don’t adhere to them in the traditional sense. Instead, I focus on life goals, which I break down into daily objectives. By committing to these daily goals, I steadily progress towards achieving my broader aspirations and I am proud to say that I have made progress towards achieving many of them. While there have been moments where I have stumbled or faced setbacks, I have remained committed to my goals and have taken proactive steps to stay on track. By staying focused and disciplined, I have been able to make meaningful strides towards personal and professional growth.
Have you agreed for anybody? Who/What?
The answer is Yes, especially for my clients(lol) you know “customer is king”. The mantra of “I no gree for anybody” cannot even work in my line of work because it falls short of the reality. My overarching life goal remains constant: continuous self-improvement in both personal and professional realms.
What did you set out to achieve this year?
As a woman and a career woman, my goals for this year include advancing in my career, through gaining new skills, taking on leadership roles, or achieving specific milestones within my profession. Additionally, I aim to strike a balance between my professional aspirations and personal well-being, focusing on areas such as self-care, maintaining healthy relationships, and pursuing personal growth outside of work.
Share your life hacks: How do you deal with the pressure?
One strategy that has helped me deal with pressure is practising mindfulness and self-care. Whether it’s taking short breaks throughout the day to recharge or engaging in activities that bring me joy and relaxation, prioritising my well-being has been essential in managing stress and maintaining balance.
Members of the no-pressure gang, tap in!
Yep! Yep!! ( two fingers in the air) lol. As a member of the no-pressure gang, I have found that maintaining a positive mindset and focusing on what I can control has been instrumental in staying grounded amidst the chaos. By letting go of unrealistic expectations and embracing imperfection, I have been able to cultivate a sense of calm and resilience in the face of adversity.
Do you need to vent? Let’s have it.
My vent is work-related, and it’s been taking a toll on my mental health. I’m feeling frustrated and undervalued at the moment, as I feel like my efforts are being taken for granted or my role in my organisation is being downplayed because it’s me (Jessica). This situation has started to affect my performance, and I’ve noticed a decline in my motivation and drive. It’s disheartening, and I’m feeling sad about it. I hope that things will improve soon, as I’m eager to regain my sense of purpose and enthusiasm.
How do you rejuvenate?
To rejuvenate and recharge my mind, body, and spirit, I prioritise self-care and engaging in activities that bring me joy and relaxation. This includes spending time outdoors as an ‘outsider’ that I am, lol. Practising mindfulness and praying daily, reading, *Netflix-ing and spending quality time with loved ones. These activities help me to disconnect from stressors and replenish my energy levels, allowing me to approach challenges with a renewed sense of clarity and resilience.
What advice do you have for people going through it?
For those facing similar struggles, I offer words of encouragement and support. Remember that it’s okay to acknowledge and express your emotions, and seeking help or talking to someone you trust can provide valuable perspective and support. Take time to prioritise self-care and engage in activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Above all, have faith in your ability to overcome challenges and trust that brighter days are ahead. Don’t forget to pray, don’t be ashamed to pray, don’t be too proud to pray, because prayer changes things, never stop Praying!!
What’s your take on therapy?
Seeking professional support through therapy can be a crucial step in prioritising mental health and well-being. Therapy, when necessary, is invaluable in aiding others. Clinical therapy serves to support individuals in overcoming emotional pressures and related issues. It is a proactive approach. Remember, “the purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, and to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences”.
