In all honesty, gifting can be such a chore! The anxiety of not knowing if your gift will be appreciated, if it is worth it or if it resonates with the person on the receiving end.
In a bid to escape this uncertainty, a lot of people would rather settle for putting some cash in a ‘brown envelope’ as an escape. You will hear them say things like, “No be me you go stress, kuku buy what you want by yourself”
(please tell me you are not guilty of this lol).
Now this brings me to the question, “Does the perfect Valentine’s gift exist?”
To answer this question, we will need to ask ourselves the true purpose of gifting especially on a day like St. Valentine’s Day, the International Day of Love.
I would say we give gifts on this day to renew or re-confirm our connection with our significant other, it is an avenue of communicating our feelings and appreciation for them. Gifting goes beyond showing off your capacity to spend lavishly or splurge cash. It is a vulnerable experience, a tangible representation of the effort put into nurturing the relationship, an expression of your emotions through an act of service or an object.
Having established the real purpose of gifting, would it still be right for one to say that the perfect Valentine’s gift exists? (don’t worry, take your time to ponder over this)
I am sure you’ve gotten to this point and you’re eager to see where I list the suggestions on what to gift him or her. Sorry to burst your bubbles, darling, here is the part where you go grab a seat and reflect!
These questions will help you put things in perspective and gift your partner intentionally this Valentine’s.
1.) In what way can I show how much I care for them?
2.) What are the things my partner likes and needs?
3.) What is my partner’s personality like? Does this gift reflect them in any way? Does it suit their taste?
4.) Would this gift be of sentimental value to my partner?
5.) Is this budget-friendly? Can I afford it?
I’ll leave you with this, look beyond getting the “perfect gift” instead get a gift that is meaningful and special. As we mentioned earlier, gifting can be a chore, but it is a lot easier when done with thoughtfulness.
Cheers and good luck in finding the “perfect” gift for him or her. Also, have a beautiful Valentine’s Day celebration!
(And to my partner, I fancy a car for Valentine, mwah!)
