It’s always refreshing to be able to translate one’s thoughts into readable forms, it’s inspiring for me and I hope it does inspire those who find time to browse through.
This month’s theme is very tricky as it seems like requiring a writer to pen down his or her biography. Having said that, I want to thank the team who continues to amazingly organise everything while ensuring the publications are top-notch.
The best part of my workday starts the day before. I am someone who likes going out and meeting new people mostly potential prospects as a salesperson and this requires strategic planning, reading up anything one can lay hands on that gives a clue of who the people I meet and will meet are. So, coming to the office and sitting down to finalise my preparation is not only relaxing, it is therapeutic. It kicks me into work mode activated. That mind switch for me is priceless.
Culture Shock: it is easy to dismiss the idea of culture shock for someone who has stayed long in the same place she works. Shock may not come in the form of a cultural shift but may come as a result of realising that you are part of an organisation that is set up for excellence. The mental shift and work ethic one has to develop to align with the vision of the organisation is challenging. HH has evolved from what I heard and is still evolving. From its inception in 2010 it has stamped itself as a brand of repute, its strategy for excellent delivery of products and services with a motivated workforce has set it apart. It’s not difficult to imagine and hold up the truth that in the next five, ten and twenty years the brand and group itself would have become a leader in every sector we are currently playing in and would have given birth to other subsidiaries.
Legacy is not built in a dash of meters, it’s a consciousness that one holds at the back of his or her mind as life passes by. Your work ethic, one’s disposition to life, and how he or she pursues the dream they hold as ultimate is what accumulates into a destiny.
So in effect, we are building a legacy whether we know it or not.
I share and cherish the concept that was developed by our Founder, Mr Tony Elumelu, CFR.
The private sector as a matter of necessity should and must play a vital role in the development of its continent. The concept of regional connectivity for instance is a must as this would guarantee cross-border transactions leading to the development of a treasured value chain of business activities, Transportation would become easier and the movement of goods will become collaborative. I hope the government will develop policies that will facilitate this needed reality.
To thrive in anything one must of a necessity know the industry he or she belongs to and what is required to thrive. The wish to thrive is resident in every human being but only those who become intentional and disciplined eventually thrive. So I am deliberate in the things I do and stay within the ring of discipline that’s how I thrive.
Mentorship can be active and inactive. There are people you learn from on one on one basis, and there are some whose lifestyle and work ethic become your guide. Our founder is a mentor of excellence for me, as he has continued to demonstrate that hard work and consistent commitment which constantly keeps him on top. I look at him as my mentor, so I deliberately read if not all his posts and follow the things he says because you can’t fault his track record.
Thank you for another opportunity to share my thoughts.
Jess.
