“You have been recommended to voice the Heirs Academy graduate trainee graduation video!”
Feels like just yesterday when I got a call from Priscilla, a fellow graduate trainee regarding this, barely a week to our Heirs Holdings’ Graduate Trainee Graduation Ceremony. I was awash with a lot of questions and emotions, owing to my disdain for being in the spotlight and being the focus of too much attention.
Alas! The rollercoaster of events that unfolded following that incident led to the birth of a beautiful friendship.
Whilst the rotational placements of a random group of Graduate Trainees in different investee companies allowed us to bond and get acquainted with one another beyond the four walls of “Dominic Room”, getting to know all 60+ graduate trainees was a feat beyond an ambivert-like me, and there were pockets of people I had few to almost little interactions with, one of them being “Priscilla!”
From recording the audio script for the documentary umpteenth times in a bid for “perfection”, to hushing everyone that walked past the gym to avoid interruptions and retakes, to gusts of laughter at mispronunciations and vocal pitch errors, my first close interaction with Priscilla was delightful, to say the least, and our moments together have never been anything less.
I think it’s a beauty to behold two friends who aren’t exactly as similar as you’ll quite expect. Think about a friendship between two cans of Coke and Fanta; by the way, (Priscilla’s mornings are incomplete without a chilled bottle of Coke, and I bet she’s heard me say this countless times! (Lmaoo) Priscilla loves bright-coloured outfits, while I’d rather stick to darker-themed shades, I practically always wear a smile as opposed to Priscilla, who sometimes wears her emotions in her expressions. She’s also not one to be less vocal about her opinions when they’re sought, while I’d rather mumble a few words as my take and take a bow, she’s artsy, while I’m more analytical and structured.
Of course, we have several similarities; asides from both being quite ambitious lastborns who dislike the chores that come with this, we both share similarities in faith, principles and values. Might I add that we both don’t take alcohol (lol!)
I’m glad to have Priscilla in my corner, although I rarely tell her this sha. A key theme for our friendship, I think, is the ability for small beginnings to have greater endings. Who would have thought that the Graduation Video would be so greatly appreciated and lead us on a most thrilling journey in the Executive Office for over 8 months?
From working together under pressure to fighting fires and having each other’s backs in the face of the fire to dancing and singing Spyro’s “Who’s your guy?” at the HH Africa Day Celebration while dancing offbeat (Oh well, more of me on the offbeat dance part sha); we’ve practically seen it all, and done it all. Maybe not exactly all, but still…
I’d end this with words from Gregory David Roberts “A man trusts another man when he sees enough of himself in him.”
Thank you, Priscilla Okorie, for being proof that work friendships are possible and the absolute best.
“I dey for you, my guy!!”
XOXO
