It’s nearly hard to avoid tension when you live in Lagos, Nigeria. From the complexity of holding down a corporate job to the daily traffic to personal relationship wahala and adulthood, stress is nearly unavoidable. Stress, you see, is your body’s reaction to situations in which it believes it needs extra power, stamina, and attentiveness in order to survive and thrive. Any perceived threat or challenge to your well-being can trigger a stress reaction, and too many stress responses can lead to physical and mental health problems. As a result, it’s critical to devise a strategy to deal with stress when it comes knocking.

There are many ways to deal with stress, and what works best for one person may not work for the other regardless I’ll share mine:

  • Exercising regularly: Physical activity can help reduce stress and improve your overall well-being. Try to incorporate some form of exercise into your daily routine.
  • Practising relaxation techniques: Deep breathing, meditation, and yoga are all techniques that can help calm the mind and reduce stress.
  • Getting enough sleep: Sleep is essential for both physical and mental health. Make sure you’re getting enough restful sleep each night.
  • Connecting with others: Social support can help reduce stress and provide a sense of belonging. Try to spend time with friends and family or join a group or club that interests you.
  • Managing my time: Poor time management can contribute to stress. Make a schedule and prioritize your tasks to help manage your workload.
  • Seeking help if needed: If stress is interfering with your daily life or you’re having trouble coping, consider talking to a mental health professional.

As I said, everyone experiences stress at some point in their lives. It’s important to take care of oneself to avoid breakdown and other health challenges associated with stress.
