Who is Nduka Mba-Uzoukwu
Just another chap.
It’s safe to say you’re everybody’s friend, how did you become so popular?
I have no idea, to be honest. Maybe it’s the size of my nose.
Describe yourself in three words.
Unassuming, ambitious, ‘annoying’
Besides, Duke, do you have any nicknames at work? If yes, what are they?
Odogwu (haha).
What drives you? The work you do and the man you’ve become.
Delivery. Execution. I’m a stickler for achievements. I like to get things done as intelligently and perfectly as I am able to when it’s my/my team’s responsibility to.
Besides being Group Head of Customer Experience, how did you become the go-to guy for advice?
My parents raised my brothers and I to care about people, demonstrably. So, I create time for people, make myself accessible, listen attentively (very important), think through what I hear and give the best possible advice I could, just as I would advise anyone I care about. I guess that resonates with people and; they derive some value and connect with the our conversations we have.
How long have you been an HH Person and what would you say have been the highlights of your time at HH Group?
I joined HH in February this year – 8 months ago. Meeting my Chairman in person has been the highlight of my time here. Growing up in banking, he was one of those industry legends whose exploits my contemporaries and I respected. We all hoped to meet him some day. I wasn’t going to skip my chance to do so.
In your own words, who is a stand-up guy and why are they important?
We all need people, or at least one person who, in the midst of all the chaos life presents, is always available, dependable, trustworthy and willing to help us navigate those situations. That’s who a stand-up guy is. And that’s what he/she does, consistently.
What’s one thing you want people to know about you?
I like abacha with a lot of okporoko, ugba, garden eggs and a cold bottle (or two) of Guinness.
What do you do in your free time?
Watch The Arsenal!!!
What’s your philosophy on life?
Love your neighbour as you love yourself.
What would you like other men to know?
‘We dey try’!
