It is probably the first time you are hearing there is a special day set aside to celebrate you. I’ve heard many men ask “How many Mother’s Day celebrations do we have?”, “Everyone keeps quiet when it’s time to celebrate men,” and so on and so forth… so, here you go, our capable, sophisticated, caring, mature and brilliant men. Please forgive us for our previous sins.
As we pop champagne to celebrate your day, we want you to know 3 things:
That you are worth celebrating: You are a gentleman, highly intelligent, you take responsibility (even when it is not you and you just want peace), you look out for us and even people you don’t really know, you give thoroughly of yourself and you protect us instinctively from all harm. We celebrate you, Yes you … Okunrin Meta, Onye Isi, Babban Mutum … are worth celebrating.
That you can be vulnerable: We want you to know that you don’t always have to be tough. It’s okay to cry, to show your emotions, and to be vulnerable. Speak up when you need to. You’ve been our shoulder to cry on, we want to be there for you. Don’t shut us out. We want to love you, hold your hands and walk that road with you. Always remember that you are never alone. You can always count on us.
That we are not talkative, we just want to communicate: You probably think we are just parrots but I promise you, we are not talkative. We just want you to know how we feel – about that boss at the office, about the friend that betrayed us and that annoying person that cursed us out in traffic. And guess what? We’ll love it if you gist us too… not the summarised version o, we want blow-by-blow accounts, of anything and everything.
Happy International Men’s Celebration Chief. We love and appreciate you!
