I believe one of the greatest assets we have at Heirs Holdings is the superior mix of brilliant and diverse minds and backgrounds, working across vast industries and functions. Before COVID-19 moved most meetings to virtual sessions, my most memorable experience at HH remains the physical knowledge-sharing sessions.
The fact that it was always a grand event; people across the Group would leave to get to the Dominic Hall at Heirs Place by 4 pm. I would get my tasks done on time and schedule to get to HH right before 4 pm so I can get a good seat, ready to soak up the shared knowledge.
My most memorable knowledge-sharing session started with a book- “Management Lessons from Mayo Clinic”. This was a book I had personally bought and learned a lot from, especially regarding the global healthcare industry. I felt my boss and Chairperson of Avon Medical Practice, Dr Awele Elumelu would also find the book invaluable, so I lent her my copy. While she read the book, our Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, stumbled on the book and decided it would be nice to have someone read the book and seminar on it at one of our knowledge-sharing sessions.
Through the session, several people received insights into the healthcare business, and it resonated well with everyone. Our Group Chairman mentioned that I had given the book to our Chairperson, Dr Elumelu, and stressed the importance of continual learning.
One of the biggest attractions at HH knowledge-sharing sessions is the opportunity to meet other brilliant minds across the Group, doing amazing things in diverse industries. I am always inspired when I get to meet others, I gain insights from them, and push myself to strive for excellence in the role I play as Chief Operating Officer at Avon Medical Practice.
Though the knowledge-sessions are virtual due to the current context, I always try to attend the sessions, to soak up all the insights I can from all the HH Superstars.
