Dear Me,
I know I’m not perfect but there’s one thing I will always condemn and fight against, it’s called Injustice.
On many occasions, I have spoken out against unfairness, without thinking of the consequences. Lol. It is interesting how some memories just stick with you.
A major instance was when my lecturer ridiculously increased the practical project fee. At that time, a lot of us students could not afford it, but he insisted we paid, otherwise we fail and carry the course over.
It was disheartening. So, I met with the course rep and suggested that we escalate the matter to the Head of our Department (HOD). We were able to have a meeting with our HOD, who after listening to our ordeal, assured us that he would speak with the lecturer.
The lecturer in question eventually came to class the following week and to everyone’s surprise, announced that after receiving some complaints on the project fee, he decided to reduce it. That was a huge win as well as a big relief for us!
Subsequently, I have spoken up about the ills in our society. I once wrote a short script on the issues affecting Nigerian university hostels which I plan to make into a short movie. I am always one of the keypad warriors on Twitter, using hashtags to fight against injustice in the country or sensitise people for a social change. ☺️
These little actions may or may not make a huge difference, but I am sure they contribute to the greater goal. I promise to continue fighting Kung-fu for change. I will always use my voice, pen, platform, and knowledge to help the vulnerable and advocate issues that affect humanity. 🙂
My humble self,
Neye.
