How It Started
Growing up was fun and memorable. I was surrounded by aunties, uncles, grandmothers, parents’ workers etc. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. This was really the case with me, especially since my father was away from the country most of that time. My mum was tough, though; I remember how, as the only girl among four brothers, she would challenge me to do all sorts of things. “You are a female, and so you have to be very wise and hardworking,” she would say back then. In fact, she was so tough that I actually grew up thinking she was a policewoman. Lool.
My love for languages started around this period, I realized I was fascinated by other cultures and way of life, and it helped that I had an ear that could easily pick-up things. Thankfully, sometime around high school, I was mentored by a friend who also studied languages—she inspired me to consider it as a career choice.
Where I Am Now
I fluently understand five languages—this fact about me surprises people, especially since two of those languages are French and Portuguese. Honestly, it all seems natural. As a child, I preferred to watch either Chinese or Korean movies. And whenever I had the opportunity to listen to any other language, I jumped in. I’ve been to some francophone countries and taught fresh in some high schools; it has been helpful to stay engaged with the languages.
On Biggest Fears
One of the things I’m most afraid of is the inability to translate my value so that people can see. Like most people, I do not like failure, but I think that failure can be the consequence of the inability to translate your skills and values. Translation builds bridges, it makes life easier, whether you are translating your skills or you are translating a language.
Expectations For The Future
My expectations are nothing less than to own a French school and a Fashion design Complex. In five years, I hope to have achieved my dreams of international influence, as well as have a thriving family.
