Many of us may have met the jovial Blessing Igwe (Mrs Ibekwe), who has been working HH for 7 years. What we may not know is how she met her husband whom she married a few weeks ago.
Here’s the juicy story:
Blessing, tell us how you met your husband?
Usually, there is this bus I join to work in the morning that picks up passengers at Charity Bus stop. Once you miss the bus at 5:30am, you cannot get another one. My husband (a stranger at the time) and I usually enter the same bus but we never talked for about one year or one and a half. Sometimes, I would stay in front while he would stay at the back.
One particular week, I noticed that he was absent. So, when he finally appeared, I asked him what happened as we had not been seeing him. He said that he lost someone, his brother, and he was surprised that I noticed. He asked how I knew he was absent, and I said I was used to seeing him around. He then said I would like to know you, but I said, I just noticed, not for any reason.
He said he also noticed that I enter the bus alone and sometimes he would want to talk to me, but he would think, “I don’t want any trouble”. He said Lagos girls can be so aggressive.
Anyway, we just got talking. He said he wanted us to be friends and he collected my number.
However, my phone was bad, and I did not want to meet him so I avoided him for a week, taking another route – Oshodi-Isale. But then after a week, there was this heavy rain and I could not avoid taking the usual bus. When he saw me, he said that he was scared as my phone had been off. I confessed that I had seen trying to avoid him, but he convinced me that he meant no harm.
This was last year February.
Then what happened…?
We later found that we were both born in August. He was like, “this is going well” (*laughs*). I asked him how, and he just kept quiet. He bought me gifts on my birthday but was worried that I did not want to take him to my house.
First visit to the house…
One Saturday when I closed from work, he called and asked me where I was. By then, I had reached Charity Bus Stop. I did not know he had seen me and followed me home. Then I got a call from him for me to open my gate. I was so surprised that I called my brother to accompany me. But then I did not want people seeing me talking to a boy outside, so we went to his place.
From then, we became close and he said he would like to marry me.
He went to my place in Enugu and met my mother and then he said he wanted to do the introduction. I was worried as it seemed to happen so fast, but he said it did not matter.
In November, we went for introduction and by Easter, we were married in the Church.
Tell us a bit about him
He is a businessman from Imo State. He is also a titled man. They gave him the title Baba Loja in Balogun. Tinubu’s wife conferred on him.
How did your family receive him?
My mother was so happy as she was always on my case at the time.
Thank you so much, Blessing, and congratulations again!
