Preparation sometimes meets opportunity
Recently, Mutiu Bakare transitioned from Afriland Properties to the position of Group CFO, Transcorp Plc. We caught up with him to more about his story.
What was your first week like in your new role?
Change is inevitable. I would say I was prepared for the change in environment and the task at hand. It is a great opportunity to work within the Transcorp Group. Every staff I met was very welcoming; my induction process was smooth and informative.
It opened my eyes to how the business works.
What made you decide to move from one role to another within HH Group?
I always look forward to more challenges and more opportunities. When this opportunity came, I could not but attempt to take it and that was exactly what I did.
How did you hear about the job opening?
Through my supervisor.
What made you feel you were the best person for the job?
Not to make attempts in life is the real failure. Preparation sometimes meets opportunity. I was prepared, so I just had to give it a try.
What do you think your former colleagues miss the most about you?
One of the common quality people commented on during the send-off from Afriland Properties was my humility and selflessness.
What do you miss the most of your former colleagues?
Wow, a whole lot.
Afriland Properties Plc is more than an organisation, it is a family. The dedication, hard work, teamwork and resilience is indeed unquantifiable.
From the MD/CEO to the cleaners and security men, there is a sense of responsibility and ownership that keeps the company successful.
I’d miss that.
We miss you too, Mutiu, but then again, you are not too far away as we still have business dealings.
