Recently, Obiorah Ozugha embarked on another exciting phase of his career journey within Heirs Holdings Group when he moved from the position of the Finance Manager at Transcorp Hotels Plc to the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Afriland Properties.
We caught up with him to get the tidbits of his story.
Upon your resumption at Afriland, what was your first week like in your new role?
It was hectic. Trying hard to understand everything about the entity business and processes, dealing with the demand of the new role and studying the people I will be working with)
What made you decide to move from one role to another within HH Group?
My desire to take additional responsibility and especially when it was a switch from the Hospitality business to Real estate.
How did you hear about the job opening?
The Director of Human Resource, Transcorp Plc shared the details with me.
What made you feel you were the best person for the job?
It’s difficult to pinpoint a particular attribute that made me stand out. However, I live the values of the Group as encapsulated in the 3E’s – Excellence, Execution and Enterprise.
Talk us through the application process
It happened so fast. The Director of Human Resource communicated the opening to me and next was a series of chats with the President/CEO of Transcorp Group, the erstwhile CFO, the MD and the Chairman all of Afriland Properties Plc.
What challenges and respites have you faced easing into the new environment?
The challenge of settling in the new environment has been minimized especially with the friendly postures of the MD and other colleagues.
What do you think your former colleagues miss the most about you?
My mature disposition to getting work done within the acceptable timeline.
What do you miss the most of your former colleagues?
Their love.
