I have always been intrigued by running and have always been in awe of people who could run long distances. This, however, seemed like an impossible feat to me.
After my last set of children, I realised I had so much weight to loose (in addition to the weight I had tried to loose over the preceding 7 or 8 years). With the encouragement of my ever-supportive husband I got a personal trainer who showed me how to, very gradually, incorporate light jogging into a walking routine. I worked with him for 6 weeks. This was in July 2015.
I then carried on, on my own, making ever-so-slight increments to my jogging time vis-a-vis my walking.
Finally, by early 2016, I decided I should challenge myself and work towards a 5km run. I was able to do this in May. My first run!
I have since gone on to do a 10km run (this year).
It is indeed amazing what one can do when one sets one’s mind to it. I’m still in awe of marathon runners, but I believe now than ever before, that I can achieve much more if I set my mind to it.
