I see money as a tool that makes life better for a person, his family, and the society at large when used in the right way. Money gives freedom and opens doors.
As an important tool, money has to be properly nurtured through judicious investments to enhance its power and ability to deliver value continuously.

Personally, I see money as God’s reward to me on earth for hard work. Recall that the bible already told us that man shall toil before he can eat (Genesis 3:17). Like the Farmer’s reward is in the harvest of his planting (work).
This is why “Early rising, to pursue the business of the day, closing late at night while pursuing your business is vain without the Divine blessing (reward) on the labour” (Psalm 127:2).

Money is one of the elements in life that ought to bring joy and never pain. My mantra is “money is there to be spent”. This is not to preach that one should be reckless with spending, but don’t feel guilty or remorseful when you indulge in pleasures that money can bring you. There are certain caveats to this:
- Always save a portion of your income. I often spend more than I save because of my mantra. However, you must never go one month without putting something aside. It is your disposable income that I feel you can do with as you please.
- Never spend above your means. Do not borrow or beg to derive pleasure. Spend your disposable income and avoid debt that is unnecessary.
- If you are a big spender, try and remember to concentrate on things that will have future value. For women, buying jewellery instead of bags and shoes which depreciate. For men, buying Art instead of cars or music systems.
- Always give! This is essential to your joie de vivre. Every penny that you give is an investment in heaven. God loves the cheerful giver. Again, give from your disposable income. It doesn’t have to be cash. Do a wardrobe clean out every year and give out those outfits that you are tired of wearing or that you bought and didn’t really like afterwards. This will give pleasure to someone and to yourself for giving. It will also help you de clutter. A de cluttered wardrobe or dressing room is a de cluttered mind, free to make more money.
- Set yourself financial goals. When you will get your first mortgage or that artwork you’ve had your eye on for a while but haven’t been able to afford. For those of you with young kids, start an education plan as soon as they are born. It may be one of your biggest expenditures in life, so you need to be prepared.
- My final word is about contentment. If you are not content, then no amount of money can bring you joy. You are allowed to dream big, but be realistic. Dream your own dreams and not those of others around you. Stop looking and start be-ing.
