Recently, Heirs Holdings Chairman, Tony O. Elumelu CFR, was at Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University’s Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) week, where he participated in a fireside chat moderated by the Dean, Prof. Chris Ogbechie, discussing the different ways to unlock Africa’s business growth potential.
The GNAM week creates opportunity for MBA students from partner schools to attend, learn and understand the different cultures and opportunities in other continents. The Business Schools represented include Fudan University of Management, China; Oxford Said Business School, UK; University of Hong Kong (HKU), Hong Kong; Yale School of Management, USA and Lagos Business School, Nigeria.
Below are some of the highlights and considerations from the conversation:
Africapitalism is a call on all of us to play our part in creating the right environment – Private sector, Government, Development partners, and friends of Africa.
The private and public sectors need to come together to embrace entrepreneurship and investments as the catalytic way to transform Africa.
Human capital is key to business expansion, and that’s why at Heirs Holdings we set up Heirs Academy; to propel our business growth and expansion across sectors.
In Africa, I see more opportunities than problems, and the private sector has the power to provide solutions to most of these problems if encouraged.
Our core values at Heirs Holdings – the 3 Es – apply to everyone and every business.
Execution: if you don’t execute your ideas, they remain dreams.
Excellence: You need to execute in an excellent fashion. Get things done properly, at the right time, and at the right cost.
Enterprise: You need to be passionate and have foresight.
The difference between successful and unsuccessful businesses is the quality of decisions that leaders make.
