Transcorp Power Limited Commissions $28.3million Gas Turbine

On the 13th of March 2017, Transcorp Power Limited, a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc. (Transcorp Plc), achieved a milestone with the commissioning of the 115MW gas turbine in Ughelli, Delta State.

 

The ribbon cutting ceremony was witnessed by representatives from the private and public sectors present including the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Honourable Minister of Power, Works & Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and the Chairman, Transcorp Plc, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu.

In his speech, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu stated, “Our gratitude goes out to the Board of Directors, particularly the Technical Committee, our technical partners, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and the Federal Government of Nigeria for believing in us as private sector investors and for providing the enabling environment. Our goal is to increase our capacity from 620MW to 850MW with the return of three turbines by the 4th quarter of 2017.”

The Honourable Minister of Power, Works & Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) reminded the audience that even though Nigeria appears to court the international investor, the importance and relevance of the local investor will never be forgotten.

“The local investor will continue to invest, because they believe in Nigeria and their efforts will be supported as much as possible by a government that shares the same belief in the nation,” the Minister said.

The Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, commended the Transcorp Power team for the remarkable achievement and for taking bold steps that improve the lives of Nigerians.

According to the CEO, Transcorp Power Limited, Kalyana Sundaram, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), General Electric, worked tirelessly for over a year in collaboration with the Transcorp Power Engineering team, led by MD/CEO, Transcorp Power, Engineer Kalyana Sundaram and Chief Operating Officer, Engineer Francis Agoha, with over thirty engineers in different fields, to ensure the successful installation of the gas turbine at the highest standards. He stated that Transcorp Power Limited is committed to generating at least 25% of Nigeria’s total power in the near future.

Other notable guests included the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Louis Edozien; Senior Policy Adviser to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Professor Sylvester Monye and CEOs of other Power Generating Companies (GENCOs), amongst others.
