Our approach to investment is guided by the philosophy of Africapitalism, which is the private sector’s commitment to Africa’s development through long term investments that create economic prosperity and social wealth.

We Primarily target three kinds of investment;

Underperforming Assets

One of our proven strengths is turning underperforming assets into drivers of growth for sustainable returns. Our management team created considerable value in financial services, in the creation of what is today the United Bank for Africa. We aim to replicate this with Transcorp, Nigeria’s leading listed conglomerate, where our management influence has already restored profitability and value to all shareholders.

Entrepreneurial Start-ups

We seek opportunities in green field ventures that can grow into successful businesses. That means when we discover a company with potential such as Planet Labs, a San-Francisco-based satellite imaging company, we step-in and help it grow. We also create and nurture industry-specific businesses from scratch for substantial impact in their sectors. Examples include Avon HMO, a health insurance business and Tenoil Petroleum & Energy Services, an oil exploration and production company.

Joint Venture Partnerships

We actively seek partners who align with our investment philosophy, and help to achieve our strategic priorities. In the oil and gas sector, we work with companies, such as Seadrill Nigeria, while General Electric is a partner in the energy sector; we have also formed joint venture partnerships resulting in businesses like AFEX, a holding company building commodity exchanges across key markets in Africa. Our partners are based all over the world, from New York to Kigali, and our network of co-investors continues to expand rapidly.
